Encaustic Monotype with Cold Wax.

Otty created a series of 6 encaustic paintings that were based on her favorite Mary Cassatt paintings. Encaustic monotypes, made with hot wax were mounted on cradled panels and these created original backgrounds for each painting. The central image is a print of a Cassatt painting, which was embedded in the hot wax, then cold wax finished the final layer for a delicate matte finish. In some cases, gold foil was used, as in this case (the necklace) for highlight.
