The Sacrament of Penance

Alas, the image of a little girl in a white dress! This assembly of pieces in this piece relates to my own first confession and first communion…raised as a catholic back in the 1950’s. Love the little porcelain doll, acquired at our town dump, behind the metal grid (an abandoned piece of lobster pot} I found on the shore. Love these “found objects”!

The dimensionality of 3-D art, in Otty’s assemblages, incorporate pieces of old wood, found objects and sometimes photographs. The various themes range from a moment of humor as in the Cupie Doll piece to a rather solemn captured moment in time as in the Pennsylvania Backyard Moment. Encaustic wax is used at times to preserve the piece from light damage. Finding the elements in junk shops, abandoned jewelry drawers and along the shore makes this art form especially fun.
